NYU Tandon researchers launch interactive 3D flood map to help New Yorkers visualize climate risks
Researchers at NYU Tandon’s Climate, Energy, and Risk Analytics (CERA) Lab have launched GeoFlood Studio, an interactive 3D map that enables New Yorkers to visualize how flooding could impact their neighborhoods under storms like Sandy and Ida, with future sea-level rise scenarios through 2100. Built to go beyond static flood maps, the platform displays water depth, flow velocity, and human vulnerability zones, while allowing users to toggle infrastructure such as the East Side Coastal Resiliency seawall to see its protective effect. By transforming complex flood simulations into an intuitive, immersive experience, GeoFlood Studio empowers residents, planners, and policymakers to better understand and prepare for climate risks across New York City.
